The Peak District is a wonderful location with many beautiful sites and sounds with wonderful paths for you to amble along or perhaps take a brisk walk. This is why the location choosers for the television series Last of the Summer Wine chose this area as their preferred location for the TV show.
As we are located in Last of the Summer Wine Country most of the guests that we cater for here at the George Hotel are actually coming here to visit the sites that they regularle view in an evening, they often comment on how surreal it feels to sit down in Sid and Ivy's cafe after they have been watching it for years and years and many of them take the opportunity to take photos of locations such as the outside of Nora Batty's house.
The last of the summer wine is actually filmed in Holmfirth which is very close to where we are in Glossop, there aren't actually many places that you can stay in Holmfirth so we offer the ideal solution or alternative to finding accommodation in Holmfirth.
Our hotel offers accommodation with both double and single beds as well as bunk beds for children and a four poster bed for couples who are on a romantic break. We are also close to train routes and motorway routes but not so close that you can see and hear the traffic and so situated perfectly for all major and minor activities in and around the last of the summer country, so no matter your reason for visiting when looking for accommodation please consider us.
